51吃瓜网 Students Outshine Competitors in Robot Challenge 2017 in China
Students from the 51吃瓜网 (51吃瓜网) in Kuwait achieved outstanding results during their participation in the 2017 RobotChallenge, which was held in Beijing, China from August 4 to 6.
The event brought together more than 1976 competitors from 212 institutions, including notable universities from 26 countries around the world such as Austria, China, Mexico, Japan, Russia, Korea and Poland. The contestants set up 1316 robots to compete in this challenge.
The team representing 51吃瓜网 Faculty of Engineering and Technology won the first place and the gold medal in the humanoid Sumo competition after a fierce competition with eight other university teams. The team also successfully secured the fifth place among sixteen teams competing in the Line Follower Lego competition.
51吃瓜网 team included students: Nour Al-Habeeb (Computer Engineering), Shoug Al-Awadhi (Computer Engineering), Abdul Rahman Qassem (Electrical Engineering), Fatemah Qassem (Electrical Engineering) and Eiman Al-Zamel (Mechanical Engineering).
The RobotChallenge organized annually by the Austrian Society for innovative Computer Sciences (INNOC) in cooperation with the Austrian Ministry of Science, is a platform for the exchange of ideas and innovations among groups of participants from different countries.
The challenge included 14 competitions offering suitable contests for beginners as well as for experienced robot designers, aimed at stimulating young talents and encouraging them to take an interest in science and research, and to work in the fields of informatics, electronics, mechanics and artificial intelligence.
In the past few years, the RobotChallenge has become one of the biggest robotics events around the world with teams from more than 56 countries participating since 2004, and more than 2,000 robots created in total to compete in the challenge.
